TEAM ORIENTATION – March 8, 6:00-8:00pm

Participants and Mentors will be oriented to the Launch-a-Preneur program and its outcomes. Complete program overview, learning resources, and support programs will be reviewed with teams at this session. There will also be plenty of time for Q & A!

WORKSHOP 1 – March 13, 6:00-8:00pm

Room 130 Okanagan College

This workshop will provide participants with the following information:

  • An overview of the Business Model Canvas
  • A focus on the centre building block of the Business Model Canvas, the
    Value Proposition
  • An overview of The Pitch

At the end of the workshop, participants will have all the information necessary to draft their Value Proposition and attempt a first draft of their pitch. As with all other building blocks of the Business Model Canvas, participants will be required to conduct work on their own, with support available from the mentor pool to test, refine, and validate their assumptions.

Pre-Work for Workshop 1

Before attending Workshop 1, participants should have completed the following:

  • Watch Steve Blank Video Lessons 1, 1.5 & 2 – The Value Proposition
  • Become familiar with Participants section on Launch website
  • Log in and explore your online business model canvas on Strategyzer
  • Watch the Strategyzer Business Model Canvas demo
  • Come to Workshop 1 prepared to present a 30-second introduction (your name, business name if you have one and a brief description of your business idea)

WORKSHOP 2 – March 15, 6:00-8:00pm

This workshop will focus on the four building blocks on the right side of the Business Model Canvas:

  • Customer Relationships
  • Customer Segments
  • Channels
  • Revenue Streams

At the end of the workshop, participants will have all the information necessary to draft their assumptions for each of the four building blocks above. As with all other building blocks of the Business Model Canvas, participants will be required to conduct work on their own and with support from the mentor pool to test, refine, and validate their assumptions.

Pre-Work for Workshop 2

Before attending Workshop 2, participants should have completed the following:

  • Complete workbook assignments 5-14 in your binder
  • Input your draft Value Proposition into the online Strategyzer BMC template
  • GET OUT OF THE BUILDING AND TEST YOUR VALUE PROPOSITION!
  • Draft and practice your 2 min pitch
  • Watch the following Steve Blank video segments :
    • Customer Segments Lesson 3
    • Channels Lesson 4
    • Customer Relationships Lesson 5
    • Revenue Streams Lesson 6

WORKSHOP 3 – March 20, 6:00-8:00pm

This workshop will focus on the four building blocks on the left side of the Business Model Canvas:

  • Key Activities
  • Key Resources
  • Key Partners
  • Cost Structure

At the end of the workshop, participants will have all the information necessary to draft their assumptions for each of the four building blocks above. As with all other building blocks of the Business Model Canvas, participants will be required to conduct work on their own and with support from the mentor pool to test, refine, and validate their assumptions.

  • Input your assumption into the four building blocks on the right side of the
    online Strategyzer BMC template
  • Test your assumptions! GET OUT OF THE BUILDING
  • Continue to revise and practice your Pitch
  • Watch next Steve Blank video segments prior to next workshop

WORKSHOP 4 – April 3, 6:00-8:00pm

This workshop will provide participants with information on how the Business Model Canvas develops into a detailed business plan. For this workshop, participants will be provided a business plan template which will be reviewed at the workshop.

Before attending Workshop 5, participants should have completed the following:

  • A completed draft of their online Business Model Canvas
  • Review the Business Plan Template
  • Test, refine, revise, and validate your assumptions! GET OUT OF THE BUILDING!
  • Continue to revise and practice your Pitch

WORKSHOP 5 – April 5, 6:00-8:00pm

Room 130 Okanagan College

This workshop will provide participants with basic information to assist financial planning for your business. Participants will be provided with financial templates which will be reviewed at the workshop.

WORKSHOP 6 – April 10, 6:00-8:00pm

This final workshop will provide participants with all the information they need to proceed to the final “Dragon’s Den” style competition night. Detailed information will be presented regarding the competition format and judging criteria. Teams will be allotted time to practice their pitch at this workshop as well as receive one on one support for their PowerPoint presentations.

Pre-Work for Workshop 6

Before attending Workshop 6, participants should have completed the following:

  • A completed draft of their online Business Model Canvas
  • Work towards a draft business plan utilizing the template provided in workshop 5 (inclusive of financial plans)
  • Continue to revise and practice your Pitch

Final Launch Night! – May 4, 6:00-9:00pm

Salmar Classic

Teams will go head-to-head in a Dragon’s Den style competition to see who has the best business pitch. Prizes are awarded to the winner donated by our local business sponsors. Tickets are now available at Salmon Arm Economic Development Society, Community Futures and Okanagan College.
